Frequently asked
questions
What is our religious affiliation?
-
Every effort is made to assure that MK Camp teachings adhere to the Bible and not any particular religious doctrine. It is our intention that missionary kids from all Christian religious backgrounds are able to learn, grow, and feel safe at MK Camp.

What is our swimsuit policy?
-
We don't currently have a pool but we do have lots of water activities and having dedicated "water clothes" is highly recommended.
-
Chest, Stomach, and upper thighs should be covered either with tank tops and shorts or the bathing suit itself.
-
Swimming shoes are encouraged for water activities but not required. Some form of footwear is required.
Are there scholarships available? How can I apply?
-
Scholarships are available based on financial need. Please email us for details about the scholarship application. This year we will be asking that campers seeking scholarships show proof of working to raise at least some portion of their funding. We believe strongly in getting our campers involved and invested in the fundraising process.

Do you have any tools to help us raise the funds for camp?
-
Yes! Please check out our details page for a downloadable letter from our camp director that you can send to your supporting churches. We will also send the letter for you if you send us their email or physical address.

What will my child/children be doing while at camp?
-
While at camp your children will be learning about God and Christian relationships with all of their senses. There will be daily devotionals, classes, small and large group games, skits, crafts, bonfires, worship, and individual quiet time with God. Please see the Camper Registration page for more details.

What policies do you have in place to keep my child/children safe?
-
Our MK Camp Handbook addresses potential safety issues while at camp.
-
We have a 2-deep policy between staff and campers so that your children are never left alone with one adult.
-
We have a nurse on staff to address immediate medical needs and we will travel to the hospital in Tegucigalpa if necessary.
-
All of our staff will undergo independent training specifically addressing child safety.

Is there transportation available to and from camp?
-
There isn't currently a bus plan but if you are interested in one please let us know.
-
Ride shares can be arranged on the facebook page or you can make us aware of need and/or availability.

What is the electronics policy?
-
We STRONGLY discourage electronics use while at camp. If you would like to send a tablet or similar item for the trip to camp that is fine but your child will be asked to turn that in to the camp director for safekeeping upon arrival at camp.
-
If there is a reason your child needs to have access to their electronics while at camp please discuss this with the camp director before arrival.

What is your cancellation policy?
-
Cancellations after July 15, will not receive a refund. If you can provide proof of an emergency then your funds minus the $15 processing fee will be transferred to the following year’s camp expenses.

Can I visit my child/children at camp?
-
Visitors will only be allowed on campus with prior approval from the camp director. Visits will need to occur during evening worship time when you can join your child in the lesson or in the morning during large group games when there is free time.
-
No visitors will be allowed in the bedrooms at any time.
-
Visitors must wear a visitors pass while on campus.

Can I send my camper mail?
-
This year we will not do a mass mail day but you can always email messages either prior to or during camp and they will be placed on the camp mail board.

My child has allergies or special dietary needs, can they still attend camp?
-
One of the things we enjoy doing at camp is providing campers with food that is “special” and has more of a North American flare. We want all of our campers to feel included and be able to participate in all aspects of camp. For that reason, we will do our best to accommodate the food allergies of the campers that are reported well in advance of arrival. Food substitutions are expensive and on occasion will not be possible. We ask that guardians of campers with food allergies work closely with the head chef to determine what accommodations can be made.
-
Most common allergies, peanuts, milk, and gluten, can be accommodated as there are other campers with the same allergies. More rare allergies may be harder to accommodate but we will do our best. If we are unable to accommodate the food allergy we will work with the guardian to provide alternate, appropriate food choices.
-
It is very important that you respond in the application as to the level of threat the allergy causes to the camper’s life.
-
We have a dedicated staff person in the kitchen to prepare allergen-free products in order to avoid cross-contamination.
-
The expense of food substitutions for staff will be the responsibility of the staff member.
